Information about the North East

We mean by the North East, the North East of England. This includes several counties which are the Tyne and Wear county, County Durham, Northumberland and Tees Valley.

The main cities are Newcastle, Durham, Sunderland, Middlesborough and Hexam.

The region has a rich natural heritage, which includes stretches of coast and extensive upland tracts that are of European nature conservation importance for their habitats and bird-life, and the Magnesian Limestone grasslands of East Durham - a habitat found nowhere else in the world.
