Expenses in the
North East |
|
Living in the North East is relatively cheap if compared to the south of
England. If you are moving from anywhere in the south (London and the suburbs or
further south: Brighton, Portsmouth, etc) you will definitely find that the North
East is much cheaper than these places. If you are moving from the midlands,
Leeds and Yorkshire, you will also find the North East a bit cheaper. This might
not be the case if your coming from other regions such Scotland, Wales and the
North West as living expenses may vary.
If you are moving from abroad, you will generally get the feeling that living in
the UK is not cheap. This is mainly due to the strength of the British Sterling
pound and difference in currency.
To give you a general idea about living expenses we will give you some average
prices in Newcastle but by no mean take these price ranges as an exact accurate
range. Price varies and these ranges are for indication only.
Average price of a room to rent in Newcastle is around £150 - £270. You might
find cheaper though if many people are sharing a small flat and you will
definitely find more expensive.
For a flat to rent in an area such as Fenham prices may vary from £275 for a 2
bedroom ground floor flat up to £450 for a nice 3 bedroom flat. These prices
specially apply for areas were a lot of Muslims are living such as Fenham in
Newcastle where a lot of Muslims are living there and is relatively close to the
city centre and to both Universities: Newcastle and Northumbria. Alternatively,
if you are looking for a descent house, prices start at £500-
£550 and up to £850 for a nice house. Of course, you can still get better houses
for higher prices if you have some extra cash to spend every month!
Food prices really vary from one person to another. Someone can be able to spend
£100 only for food for the whole month while someone else might spend £500. In
average, a small family can live with around £200 - £300 a month. May be
slightly more if it is a big family (4, 5 children).
